Algebra - Terminology for algebraic expressions
Terminology for algebraic expressions
Algebraic expressions come in all sorts of different patterns and
arrangements. Mathematicians have given many of these different patterns
and arrangements their own particular mathematical name in much the same
way as car manufacturers give the different makes and models of cars
particular names. Recognition of the mathematical patterns and the
mathematical names will increase you speed and skills in algebra.
Algebraic expression is the broadest definition (like a motorised
vehicle). There are various subgroups of algebraic expressions that have
their own name (like car, truck, motorbike). Then we can have the different
power of 4 cylinder, six cylinder and V8 cylinder cars and trucks.
Mathematicians use different terms to explain and describe the patterns
observed in different algebraic expressions.
