Frequency tables with discrete data
Suppose that we throw a die twenty times and record the result in a
frequency table. The results might be as follows:
Die result
Throw a 1
2
3
4
5
Throw a 6
Total
Frequency
1
5
4
4
3
3
20
* A die can only return whole number results when it is rolled: for
example, 1 or 2 or 3. This observation means that we say that the data is
discrete. That is, you cannot get a value of 2.73 when you roll a die. You
can only get a discrete values like 2 or 3.
* The results could be shown with a column or bar chart.
