Intermediate Mathematics - Factorising polynomials
Polynomial functions are used to model a wide variety of situations and
these models are then used in order to solve problems. The problems may be
as simple as predicting the run rate required by a one day cricket team or
as complex as understanding the energy distribution in a supernova. They
are involved in the design of buildings and bridges and in creating the
shapes of cars.
Complex games make extensive use of polynomials and the recording industry
relies on them in the creation of the electronic components on which they
rely. In this section we explore techniques for manipulating polynomial
