Core Mathematics - Sum a geometric series to infinity
Sum a geometric series to infinity
A school fete offers helium filled balloons for sale. The helium gas
cylinder fills 50 balloons in the first hour, but by the fourth hour it has
virtually run out, filling only 40% of one balloon in the fourth hour. What
is the maximum number of balloons that one helium gas cylinder can fill?
Calculate the sum to infinity of the geometric series that has a first term
of 50 and a 4th term of 0.4.
