Trends

A trend may be masked by random fluctuations. Mathematical techniques
can smooth out the fluctuations and expose the underlying trends.

A trend exists if there is a consistent increase or decrease in the y
value as time passes.

* positive trend (y values are generally increasing over time)

* negative trend (y values are generally decreasing over time)
