Core Mathematics - The least squares regression line

The least squares regression line

The least squares regression line

The least squares regression line is the line for which the sum of the
squares of the vertical deviations of the points from the line is a
minimum.

The least squares regression line can be found using a graphing
calculator.

After having entered your data in the lists you then use STAT and across
to CALC and down to LIN REG (ax+b).

Now select ENTER and input the lists you want to work with (it will
assume list 1 and list 2 if you don't enter anything else).

This tells us that the linear regression equation for the data set is
y=0.95x+3.56.
