Core Mathematics - Introduction
Introduction
Regression lines are lines drawn on a scatterplot to fit the data and to
enable us to make predictions.
A line of best fit can be drawn on a scatterplot by eye in order to 'best
represent' the data. It is drawn so that an equal amount of points lie on
each side of the line and each point is as close as possible to the line.
The line should pass through a point defined by the mean of each data set.
This point can frequently be approximated by the median of each data set.
Let us examine a situation where a teacher is conducting a study to
examine the relationship between student absences and examination scores.
Some of the data is shown below.
