Core Mathematics - Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient, r

Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient, r

Examples of correlation coefficients

The correlation coefficient (r) is the most common measure of the strength
of association between two variables.

r can take any value between -1 and 1:

1 - perfect positive correlation

0.9 - high positive correlation

0.7 - moderate positive correlation

0.3 - low positive correlation

0 - no association

-0.3 - low negative correlation

-0.7 - moderate negative correlation

-0.9 - high negative correlation

-1 - perfect negative correlation
