Chemistry - Emission spectra
Spectroscopic study of excited atoms emitting energy will produce an
_emission_ spectrum consisting of coloured lines on a black background.
Keep in mind that absorption refers to the situation where some of the
wavelengths constituting white light are removed from the spectrum as the
energy is used to promote electrons to higher energy levels. Emission
refers to the situation where light of particular wavelengths is produced
as electrons return to lower energy levels from an excited state.
