Chemistry - Significant figures
The number of significant figures used in the answer to a calculation is
determined from the data used. In part (b) of question 27, the volume -
0.600 L - was stated to three significant figures while the concentration -
0.045 M - was stated to two significant figures. The answer is always
stated to the lower number of significant figures, in this case two.
If you are not convinced that 0.045 is two significant figures - perhaps
you think it is three - then write it in standard form (scientific
notation), ie 4.5x10
