Absorption of nutrients from the stomach
Water, alcohol and some drugs can be absorbed across the stomach wall into
the surrounding blood capillaries.
When a person eats food it tends to line the wall of the stomach. This
slows down the movement of alcohol across the wall into the blood and they
do not suffer from the effects of alcohol as quickly.
