Why do you eat food and drink water?
We need to eat food for a number of reasons:
* ENERGY - We need food for energy. When food is broken down the energy
released is used for many activities (e.g. movement, breathing, maintaining
* GROWTH - Growth is usually an increase in cell number. Food provides
the substances needed to produce new cells.
* REPAIR - Cells become damaged, die and need to be replaced. The
substances in food are used to form new cells.
* CHEMICAL PROCESSES - Substances in food are needed to ensure vital
chemical reactions occur in the body.
