Biology - Common names
One of the difficulties that occurs when using common names is that the
meanings of words change with time. For example, in the 1950s if you
described someone as being gay it would mean they were happy and lively. If
the same term were to be used today it would have a different meaning.
Scientists had to derive a naming system that overcame these problems.
