Biology - Nutrition
Nutrition is the process of taking food in and using it. All organisms
need energy to survive. They obtain this energy from the breakdown of
organic compounds such as glucose.
Animals gain organic compounds from their food. Animals are described as
Despite popular opinion, plants make all their own food. They absorb many
nutrients from the air and the soil. They do, however, use a process
called photosynthesis to make an important energy-giving molecule called
glucose. Consequently they do not need to absorb it from the environment.
For plants, involves both photosynthesis and absorption of nutrients
from the air and soil. Plants are described as autotrophic.
