If the patient was on medication ( some medications increase heart rate etc) how reliable is this test.

Meditation causes altered states of consciousness. It slows the heart rate and breathing down.

The measurement of an individual's heart rate, body temperature and breathing rate can also provide psychologists with information about the individual's state of consciousness. Generally, an altered state of consciousness would reveal a decrease in heart rate and body temperature. Psychologists also use the galvanic skin response (GSR) to make inferences about the changes in an individual's state of consciousness. The GSR measures changes in electrical conductivity in the skin by using two electrodes placed on the skin and passing a weak current between them. These changes indicate arousal of the autonomic nervous system, as arousal causes sweating and the consequent damp skin increases its electrical conductivity.

The measurement of heart would detect whether the patient is in distress and consciouness which would decrease the heart rate and body tempetutre. With my understanding of the GSR equipment would show a response of the patient body mass of heat which will then form the patients sweat gland to open the would prompt the Higher electricity measurements

The fight or flight response changes the heart rate. The reactions to the altered states of consciousness would also cause a reaction and change the heart rate as a reaction of the emotions or stress/trauma that is evoked by the altered state of consciousness.
