Health and Human Development - Environmental and inherited factors
affecting development and health
Nutrition
Adequate diet for normal growth of soft and hard tissue and energy
needs for correct body weight for height will influence prenatal, infancy,
childhood and adolescent physical development.
The eating patterns at any stage of the lifespan will influence current
and future general good health. In some countries inadequate nutrition has
a significant influence on physical development. Starting at the prenatal
stage, babies born underweight will be susceptible to childhood illnesses.
The UNICEF website indicates the impact of malnutrition on development and
health. As can be seen from this map, not only is mortality high, but
future development and health is greatly influenced by levels of
malnutrition.
