English - Dramatic structure
As mentioned previously, the dramatic structure of Act One establishes the
pattern for the rest of the play. It begins quietly, with Parris praying
before his daughter, but the tension steadily increases with the
introduction of each character.
The tension culminates into a climatic ending, with the girls hysterical
crying out. It would be useful if you devised a tension graph so that you
could plot the increasing tension. It is this pattern of increasing tension
that is repeated in the subsequent acts.
