Another application of using differential equations is in beam deflection
- where a beam fixed at one end is bent by applying a load to the other end
resulting in the bending of the beam. The downward deflection of the beam
can be determined from a differential relationship.
A uniform, horizontal beam _AB_ of length _l_ cm is bent under a certain
load so that the downward deflection,_ y_, of a point at a horizontal
distance, _x_, from the end_ A_ satisfies the equation:
