The term "Classical music" is a general one which we use to refer to the category of music that was composed and written down by musicians during the late 18th and early 19th centuries by composers such as Beethoven, Haydn and Mozart. It is usually written and performed using music sheets which contain musical notation (the written form of music) using musical symbols such as clefs, quavers and notes. Classical music can also be any style of music based on long-established principles of composition such as jazz or rock 'n' roll.
Alison offers music courses that break down the musical pieces by many composers, explaining their choice of instruments and musical ornamentation. The courses also discuss the evolution and development of classical music from traditional/folk music using primitive instruments up to its highly developed form as practiced in concert halls in the 20th and 21st centuries.
