The issue of using makeup for different seasons, applies mainly to people living in locations where the climate changes significantly at different times during the year. This would especially be the case for people living in the Northern hemisphere. In this case, the main difference would be the summer and winter months, when the temperature changes significantly, the skin reacts accordingly and different types of clothing are worn. In this topic, we examine different styles of makeup that are used at different times of the year. When it comes to those hot summer days, it is important to create a look that is quick and easy. Nobody wants to waste any time applying makeup, when they can be out there having fun. One of the most common summer looks is the "sporty" look. This is perfect for women on the go, who want to look cute and neat while they're out and about. It only takes about five minutes to apply and is the perfect look for your client, especially if they're on a day long photo shoot on the beach. Start with a face and body sun screen, with a high SPF of around 30, that is oil free. It should include protection against UVA and UVB rays. The use of a water resistant shimmer, is perfect for the shoulders and the face, to create that glossy look. The application of shimmer on the face, should be on the forehead, cheeks, chin and nose areas. This way, it can deepen the look of the tan. Cream eye shadow can be used as a natural color for the eyelids and can be applied using an eyeshadow brush. A water resistant mascara can be used, to create depth in the eyes. There are lots of mascara colors that work well for the summer look. Try traditional black or get funky with some turquoise, blue, or green. Make sure that the mascara is waterproof. Lip balm with UVA and UVB protection and an SPF of 30, can be used for a glossy look. Cold weather leads to heated rooms and hot showers, which can wreak havoc on your skin and dry it out. Dry skin is damaging, so it's important to moisturize heavily during the winter months, to prevent it. When it comes to applying makeup for the winter time, start off with a moisturizer, to lock in the moisture and keep your skin from drying out. It's a good idea to apply a thicker foundation during the winter, instead of a tinted moisturizer. Don’t forget to use foundations with UVA, UVB and SPF protection, even in the winter. An SPF of 15, is likely to provide all the protection your client needs. It is common to use a lighter foundation in the winter, than in the summer, because most people's skin tone is paler in the winter months. Cosmetics companies usually launch darker shades and lip colours in their Fall collection. There is no exact science on what colours to use, however, your clients will likely want to stick with the trends, so you need to be aware of them. Use a tinted lip balm instead of a lipstick in the winter, when lips are often chapped and cracked. This will provide a sheen look, that will make them look healthier and smoother. Blush is an essential makeup tool for the winter months. It brightens up the face and prevents it from looking too pale. Powdered blushes are perfect for this. Hands especially, need to be moisturized in the winter. Apply some heavy moisturizer and sleep with cotton gloves on. That way your cuticles and fingers will be soft and fresh in the morning. Tip: Get a humidifier and sleep with it on every night. It will provide your inner spaces with the moisture that is lacking in the air, during the colder months. This will not only make you feel better, it will improve your overall look, as it provides your skin with much-needed moisture.
