Lesson Summary
• Cast iron is a durable piping material that resists corrosion and abrasion. Cast-iron pipes (also known as soil pipes) are used for drain, waste, and vent systems.

• Gray cast iron and ductile cast iron are two common types of iron used to make plumbing pipes and fittings.

• Plumbers use hub-and-spigot and no-hub pipes made of cast iron.
• Bends, branches, increasers, and traps are the different types of fittings plumbers use to change the direction of flow in a system.

• A hub-and-spigot pipe can be joined using compression joints and lead and oakum joints. Couplings are used to join no-hub pipes.

• Cast-iron pipes can be tested for leakages using the water test, air pressure test, smoke test, and peppermint test.
