Suicide seems to not be a cry for help, rather it is the attempt to free oneself from pervasive emotional ruminating and the resulting pain.

My boyfriend suffers from depression and anxiety. At times he would be very happy the next he would be very down about himself . I found the more time he spends with people around him the better he got , but as soon as he was alone he would go back to feeling the same . He would always say that he was ok but i could see that he wasnt . He was always scared to go speak to someone about this situation . The more i spoke with him , the better he was getting .

Veronica's experiences as a mixed-race child living in a society that is ignorant and unwilling to educate themselves or to change their way of thinking about the "norms" of society helped contribute to the pain and perceived injustices that led to the diminished capacity of her mental health. Did Veronica help contribute to her own mental health decline by accepting the abuse and rejection as a part of he coping mechanism?

this case study shows how prejudices can cause so much harm, how badly care systems let vulnerable people who need help, understanding and support the most. my own experiences of social services as a foster carer for a child with multicomplex disabilities has been abismal - the 'care' is not really there - policies are more important than people and individuals such as this case study are viewed as 'problems' rather than people with feelings who need to be given love and security. its frightening to realise in this day and age there is so much racism and prejudice around
