In the rural areas where there are hardly pipe-borne waters, or where waters are gotten from the streams, rivers etc, addition of purifying chemicals like chlorine may be added to kill harmful bacterials that may cause harm human health. thereby making the water safe for drinking.

introduction to water quality. water is an odorless and colorless substance that is essential to life. It has so many functions and characteristics in the human body, so proper control measures must be practiced to maintain clean water standard that are fit for consumption. major illness like typhoid and cholera are usually caused by contaminated water that are not properly treated.

Sometimes we take water for granted. We don't really concern ourselves too much with the quality of the water unless it "looks" like or "smells" like something is wrong with it. But like our colleague Ikechukwe from Nigeria pointed out below, it is odorless and colorless...and this is where we often take it for granted. One of my best friends was travelling with colleagues in an Asian country and they were warned to be careful of the water, so most of the guys had sodas with ice...guess what the ice was made with? They thought they would be safe because they didn't "drink" the water...So many of them got sick because of bad water being used to make ice. In my country we have very good water and good filtration systems at the water plant but I still plan to invest in a water filtration system for home and my restaurant

Like the passage as explain that in some parts of the world where ground water used in food production may contain arsenic and other compounds which, when consumed by humans, can be very dangerous. As we know that water contamination is a major source of gastrointestinal illnesses, which can be fatal to vulnerable people. It causes a lot of illness, diarrhea, bacteria, skin infection and so on. Pathogenic microorganisms in contaminated water can potentially contaminate foods when used in ingredients, ice, or steam and when there is contact with food. So it will be the best of us to make sure that we are using clean water. W H O are trying their best to reduce the risk of water contamination and helping to protect public so as to maintain a good health.

Whilst I understand that the management of water quality is important and needs routine monitoring systems in place to ensure water safety for various uses in food production, but how often would you test the cooling towers? Once a week, every two weeks or once a month?
