Environment / climate / access to facilities - Where you live will affect the sports you get involved in. The landscape in the lake district for example is perfect for hiking. You need to live near the sea to take part in surfing. if there is a sports facility near to where you live, and there is a good road system and public transport in place, then getting there is made easy. However, many people do not live within easy reach of sports facilities, and the public transport system is poor, so participation is made more difficult.

Access to adventure:- The level of accessibility affects how many people can participate in any given activity: the higher the accessibility, the more people can be involved in the activity, and vice versa. Low access activities have a high degree of difficulty, a high risk and demand a high level of competence High access activities have a low degree of difficulty, low risk and demand a low level of competence. As well as the elements affecting the access of an adventure, so too do the characteristics. High access activities cost less, involve minimal travel, need little if any equipment, and can be completed by participants of a variety of physical standards. Low access activities tend to be expensive, dangerous and remote, requiring expensive technical equipment. You need to have a clear understanding of the accessibility of different activities and relate this to your own experience.
