Health and Human Development - Fats or lipids
Fats or lipids
Fats are a very concentrated source of energy and are the form in which
energy is stored in the body. Fats provide the essential fatty acids,
linoleic, an omega-6 fatty acid and linolenic, an omega-3 fatty acid.
Recent research has indicated a need for those in the Western world to
increase their intake of these to improve cardiovascular health, and they
appear to have some role in improving brain development in infants. These
essential fatty acids assist in the absorption and transport of the
fat-soluble vitamins A, D and E. Subcutaneous fat gives the body its soft
curves or shape and insulates the body, assisting in the maintenance of
body temperature.
Seen only in cases of starvation or extreme dieting for weight loss,
although low intakes of the essential fatty acids may prevent optimal
health from being achieved.
Found in non-trimmed meat, fried foods, cakes, biscuits, pastries and
chocolate.
Found only in animal fats.
Found in vegetable oils, fish oils and nuts.
The omega-3 fatty acids are found mainly in fish oils and some nut oils.
Omega-3 has been added to High Q bread and some eggs have been especially
produced to contain higher omega-3 content.

not all fats are bad for us.nuts contain a type of oil that helps to keep our hearts and arteries free from harmful deposite.and people who replace much of the animal fat in their meals with liquid vegetable oil, olive oil, canola oil can reduce our blood cholesterol level.but we should use nuts and oil products in moderation because also they contain calories .
what is the ideal amount for daily fat intake?

Fats made up of shorter chain fatty acids which are usually liquid at room temperature. It is important foodstuff for many forms of life and it serve both structural and metabolic functions.
Fats are complex organic compounds containing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen.they contain high level of proportion of carbon and hydrogen with little oxygen.Fats are solid at a oom temperature while oils are liquid at a room temperature.liquides fats are called Oils.Fats are not soluble in water, but soluble n solvents like kerosine, eitheir, chlofrom and benzene.Fats are found in both plant and animals.Oil can be obtained from plants and animals, fats by the process of heating e.g,vegetable oils from groundnut, coconut, melon, kernel and oil palm fruits.the oils can be hardened into roms like butter by cooling, freezing and hydrogenation.Fats and oils go into the formation of cell membranes.they act as insulator to nerves and cell membranes.
