Biology - The regulatory role of the liver

The regulatory role of the liver

The liver is a vital organ of the body performing a number of important
tasks, some of which are related to digestion. [1]

When glucose [2] is absorbed out of the small intestine into the blood, it
travels to the liver before passing through any other organ. When the
glucose level in the blood is too high the liver takes much of the excess
glucose out of the blood and converts it to The glucose is stored as
glycogen until it is needed. When the glucose level in the blood drops too
low, the liver converts some of its stored glycogen back into glucose. The
glucose is then released into the blood to get the blood glucose level back
to normal.
