An overview of ethical considerations in the conduct of psychological research: role of the experimenter
Before any psychological research is undertaken, the experimenter must make sure that all ethical considerations have been taken into account. The research needs to be carefully designed so that the data can be collected without harming the participants in any way, whether it be physical or psychological. Once the experimenter is satisfied that the study does not breach any ethical guidelines, he/she must submit the proposal of the research to an ethics committee who scrutinise it before giving the experimenter permission to proceed.
During the course of the study, the experimenter must act professionally and not breach any ethical boundaries. They should take all precautions.
