if I may ask how will the psychologist come to the conclusion by jus observing the heart -beat or skin response. how exactly will they be looking or testing on a person?

"Generally, an altered state of consciousness would reveal a decrease in heart rate and body temperature." What of if there is an increase in heart rate and body temperature, what would that be termed?

basically as your response to stimulus increases, so does adrenaline - and along with that is the activation of sweat gland responses. The water content increase in / on the skin would increase electrical conductivity.

The correlation between the physiological (i.e.,heart rate or breathing rate) and the psychological (i.e., state of consciousness) is fascinating.

The GSR can tell you a lot a person. sometimes its hard to detect the heart beats because you cannot see. Just the expression on the person can tell you alot.

Measurement of the heart rate is also a part of behavior. because when some people get excited their heartbeat increases, break out in a sweat or get nervous.

Psychology -> Altered States of Consciousness: Measurement of Heart Rate Measurement of heart rate The measurement of an individual's heart rate, body temperature and breathing rate can also provide psychologists with information about the individual's state of consciousness. Generally, an altered state of consciousness would reveal a decrease in heart rate and body temperature. Psychologists also use the galvanic skin response (GSR) to make inferences about the changes in an individual's state of consciousness. The GSR measures changes in electrical conductivity in the skin by using two electrodes placed on the skin and passing a weak current between them. These changes indicate arousal of the autonomic nervous system, as arousal causes sweating and the consequent damp skin increases its electrical conductivity.
