The Key Contents from this Module are:

Major problems which biologists and engineers aim to solve include:

Feeding the growing world population
Eliminating problems associated with Climate change
Eradicating Human diseases
Providing Abundant and renewable energy

Some technologies brought about by Bio-inspired engineering include:

Waterproofing
Efficient Transportation Systems
Tsunami-alert systems
Sustainable buildings
Fog-harvesting technology

Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things. The human body is composed of trillions of cells. Cells have many parts, each with a different function. Some of these parts, called organelles, are specialized structures that perform certain tasks within the cell.

Two major types of cells

Prokaryotic cell (plant cell)
Eukaryotic cell (animal cell)

Multicellular organisms need communication to occur between and within cells for different cellular purposes including:

Growth
Cell division
Differentiation
Movement
Metabolism
Secretion

Diverse organisms can be divided into three fundamental groups:

Bacteria
Archaea
Eukarya
