Treatment for mental health illnesses should not be standard but individualized per the mental illness and person. Will this help with the willingness to participate in treatment by mentally ill individuals?

Until 1913's Mental Deficiency Act, there was no distinction between someone with a learning disability and someone with a mental illness. A child who is struggling in school or having difficulty reading, would be sent to a mental institution which at the time were primarily custodial and not educational. There does not seem to be a treatment plan in place to assist individuals with their own unique needs and help them sufficiently back into society. It appears that these asylums were put in place to regulate the human race.

As changes occurred in the structure of society moving from a subsistence rural economy to an industrialized one the need for education and training became obvious. Those apparently unable to keep pace with the mainstream were put into specific learning institutions and again isolated from others. Special Needs schools were established and only recently has there use been questioned. In Australia children were taken by force from their parents and their education to part in mission stations and city institutions to learn the blackness out of them. Even today children are removed from Aboriginal parents on the slightest notion of neglect or abuse because there is underlying racial superiority issue underpinning Aboriginal Australia.

I think that this module shows how treatment's have moved on and that all agencies need to be working together to help the suffer.

I think it is right to have inclusive education (having deaf, physically disabled and able learners in one school). This should be so because children not requiring special needs education would be able to interact much freely with those requiring special needs education. I am saying this because I taught in an inclusive school and the deaf seemed to experience self-esteem as well as asserted themselves much freely. I believe this made them less prone to distress

I am imagining how many Idas existed in the past and how their "agonizers" could not easily draw a red line between those who actually needed seclusion and those they assumed required such yet they were in no sorry mental state.

As I progress in this course, I think it would be okay have a course instructor posing questions to the learners who would in turn post back their responses...will this happen any time soon?
