    It is always important that socio - cultural beliefs about illness is to be consider in the practice of our profession because it might as well help in the prevention of illness and alleviation of patient sufferings. It is always to be respected in case we encounter patients believing on this and I think this is one reason why transcultural nursing is being studied by our students in the college.

    In Maori culture there are hierarchy within family. and that the whole make the decision but at the end of it the Kaumatua (elder) in the family has the last say. this can be challenging at times, and take a while to come to a decision.
