The present continuous is used for actions that are happening right now; they were happening in the near past, are occurring now, and will be happening in the near future. It is also used to describe changes; for example, the temperature is increasing; the weather is getting hotter; and sales are climbing. The present continuous is used by joining the to be verb (is/am/are) with the present participle (verb + ing).
