The healthcare system as we know it today is overgrown and broken. Many factors contribute to the problem besides just one factor (i.e. medication, testing, salaries, specialties, population expectations, and outcomes). One of the problems that the US government has focused on is fraud and abuse. Billing for services that were not provided. The system went on unchecked for many years and business has found a way to make health and the care profitable. The problem with attempts to fixing the system is that it has become a behemoth and where to start with a solution. Currently, the government is monitoring billing, skilled need and outcomes to slow the abuse.

That was interesting. I see, that the cost of medicines and other things are going up faster than inflation. I also heard that some medications are not even needed. That would be a way to cut cost, by given only medications that are truly needed. The other thing that Congress could do is to limit the cost of medications is to buy in balk. It does so for the VA, why not for the states as well. If the states were to buy meds in balk it would be cheaper for the states as well.
