Participation in sport: socio-cultural factors - environment, climate and access Environment, climate and access If you live near the sea or a river you are far more likely to sail or row. If you live in a cold climate it is easier to take up skiing or snowboarding. The easier it is to get to a sports facility, the more likely, you are to go there. If the nearest one is a kilometre away, interstate, or overseas that makes participation difficult.
