Health and Human Development - Environmental and inherited factors
affecting development and health
Environmental factors
In developing countries the majority of people, especially women, have
low incomes and insufficient access to primary health care. The
environmental influences in developing countries may inhibit physical
growth, but social development may occur much earlier as circumstances
force young children to work, look after other children, walk many miles to
gather fire wood and/or water.
You cannot alter your inherited capabilities, but the degree to which you
develop your potential will vary considerably depending on environmental
influences. Environmental and inherited factors interact to influence
development and health. For optimum development a combination of influences
is required at all stages in order that an individual might experience an
optimal environment. [1]
