Health and Human Development - Measuring development
Measuring development
Development is measured in qualitative terms
The average age at which particular characteristics of development are
achieved is referred to as a milestone age.
For each stage of the lifespan there are developmental milestones or
developmental tasks, [1] and the achievement of these are seen to be
recognition of a particular stage of development.
For example, it is expected that children will walk by the age of two and
that adolescents will be seeking independence.
There are social expectations that these milestones will be achieved at
every stage of the lifespan.
