The main specialised courts are the Family Court, the Federal Court, the Children's Court and the Coroner's Court. These Courts have jurisdiction to hear certain cases. Specialised courts and tribunals are faster, cheaper and more expert than traditional courts. Dispute resolutions methods are used in specialised courts. The methods are mediation, conciliation, arbitration and judicial determination. Mediation is widely used in courts, tribunals and other dispute resolution bodies. Conciliation is used in some courts and tribunals. Arbitration is used in magistrate's courts for claims less than $10,000 and in private and commercial disputes. Judicial determination is used by courts for both criminal and civil disputes and tribunals. The folowing specialised courts are available for disputes resolution, in addition to the traditional court hierarchy The Family Court specialises in matrimonial procedings and divorce, The Court's jurisdiction has been expanded to include bankruptcy , administrative law, and taxation. The court can hear appeals. The Federal Court hears criminal and civil disputes within its jurisdiction. The Court is part of the hierarchy of courts. It deals with trade practices, business law, bankruptcy, taxation, migration, discrimination and dumping. It can hear appeals. The Children's Court specialises in children's problems and procedings are made suitable for children, their parents and other parties. The family division deals with under 17 years old who need care and protection. Issues include interim protection orders, irreconcilable differences applications and guardianship orders. The criminal division hears cases for 10 to 18s. All criminal cases are tried except murder, manslaughter, homicide, arson caused death and culpable driving. The Court does not hear appeals. The Coroner's Court investigates cases of unexpected death and fires. The court is run by a magistrate who seeks to find the causes of deaths and fires.
