If not all of the behaviors are associated with alcohol, how then do you determine alcohol hallucinosis from something like schizophrenia?

Many things cause a psychotic reaction. It seems as though if there are changes in someones mental state, that seem psychotic, their medical health should be looked at. They could have a condition that is triggered by alcohol or they could have syphilis, meningitis, or encephalitis, and have no idea.

Very interesting and informative and a good guideline people are complex and can have dual and triple diagnosis with hard to explain behaviors. More recent is the concern with drug induced psychosis and wether this induces the condition or reveals a dormant underlying illness.

I remember an elderly female neighbor we were forced to visit who displayed signs of acute fear: she was always afraid and asking you if you see this or that animal; often would point out some creature she alone could see and it was moving too quickly or changing its shape to confuse you at every visit. This acute fear can also be as a result of the aging pain but then again the history is important because that could also be as a result of prolong use of alcohol use or even infections because then people rarely visited doctors it was too expensive. However it could have been a combination of factors unknown because of the limited history about the neighbor. This just points to how complex each individual and presenting issue can be. It is a fine line between neurosis and psychosis. There are many types of neuroses that are seen within the study of meantal health. Interesting that many are fleeting and pass within a short time.
