    I think that the group learning together is a great technique and creates a good rapport, "what do you think will happen if we do such and such". It invites exploration and is a great confidence builder as people speculate the outcome.

    It is necessary that teachers are prepared in advance to ask quetions - reals or not.

    Using questions through lesson will make you know the level of concentration of the class. Sometimes its even better to let students come forward and share what they have learnt to the class or even write a summary to what has been taught.

    cold calling could be used as a tool to probe for learner understanding but an advance warning could produce better results when students are forewarned to prepare ahead of the class.
