I prefer that , during the lecture, a teacher should do to invite students to comment from time to time , relating the topic to experiences and knowledge of their own.

It is obvious that the very structure of participation dictate the mode of responses to be expected. A student embarking on a long discussion when a quick Q and A quiz is out of the structure. While all the different forms of participation are needed for different reasons it is important that students are briefed on feedback modes as they change,

Students are quiet while the teacher read does not mean that they are paying attention. Often students can be with the thought away. Besides, reading can become tedious if there is no more dynamic and more active participation of all in the classroom.

Lecturing can sometimes be done with body language and teaching and learning materials to display. This make students focus on the lecturer. Also calling students from time to time to involve them in the process also helps in them not losing concentration. It also makes the lecture active and sometime with a bit of going off the content to introduce a joke can also keep the class alive.
