When class consists of many nationalities, its very challenging for a teacher to maintain a standard for eye-contact. I usually look above everyone's head, so the students think I am looking at someone behind them!

One trick which worked for me for wait time! I ask a question and walk away from where I was standing, then after 8-10 steps I call out a name for an answer!

When teacher talks about a particular subject, it is necessary to give students time to think about it, maybe discussing the matter between them before responding to the teacher. Thus, teacher may want to divide the class into groups to discuss among themselves. The debate of ideas, contents sharing will increase knowledge.

When i was in the grade school, we faced something called mental mathematics every morning and it was such that the teacher asks a question and expects the answer in about 3 seconds. This never helped us. Thus it made us fear mathematics. I thjnk giving ample time for students to think and to answer questions is very important. It helps students to produce the best of what the teacher requires. Also the distance between student-student and teacher-student is also key to lessons in class. It mast be varied to yield good results
