In addition to religious, cultural, financial, geographical, medical and historical influences impacting upon ones diet, I think as clinicians we must acknowledge educational deficits on the importance of food and therefore how these knowledge deficits influence diets. I believe this a major area that needs to be addressed. Working as a paediatric psych nurse in a locked unit, it is evident that many parents are completely unaware that what they put into their children (or allow their children NOT to put into themselves -ie/ eating disorders) impacts upon the medical and psychological development and wellness of their children.
