    If rods are primarily for night vision what changes do they go through when suddenly plunged into darkness, as we seem to "get used to" the dark, seeing more after a minute or so.

    Rods are responsible for vision at low light levels (scotopic vision). They do not mediate color vision, and have a low spatial acuity.

    Rods is mainly sight that is in black and white. Rod work slower in illuminating light than the cones because it will need a chemical named as rhodopsin, there is more to this to produce rhodopsin. Vitamin A deficiency contributes to night blindness.
