Components of Body Language - Lesson Summary
Paralanguage exists on the periphery of language. It is what is left and perceived after deducting the verbal content from speech.
The Primary Qualities category of paralanguage refers to the characteristics of voice that differentiate individuals.
Alternants refer to the vocal sounds that occur independently of verbal utterances.
Monochronic cultures are based primarily on clock time, whereas polychromic cultures are typically based on people's time.
Monochronic orientation assumes a linear order of things, which means that tasks are completed in a sequential fashion.
Polychronic orientation encourages flux and nonlinearity. There is more emphasis on completing human transactions than holding on to schedules.
In affiliative situations, people wearing red clothing are perceived to be more attractive than those dressed in other colors.
In intellectual achievement contexts in which one’s competence is evaluated, red is associated with failure, and green with success.
Digital Body Language is an art and a science that evolves around detecting and understanding prospective buyer signals and intentions to better communicate with them.
Gustorics is a study of how taste can be used as a means of communication.
Silence is considered a non-violent method of communication, unlike some gestures, postures, and hand movements that are used to exhibit aggression.
Positive Body Language enhances communication by indicating interest, openness, enthusiasm, and a willingness to listen.
