All-island Schools 4 Climate Action

All-island Schools 4 Climate Action is an educational collaboration between Co-operation Ireland, EcoEd4All, the Education Authority for Northern Ireland (EANI) and Alison. The aim of the initiative is to enhance environmental education through schools across the island, while at the same time fostering cross-border collaboration. Climate change is an increasingly pressing global concern and it's crucial that the subject is central to young people's education. By emphasising the importance of environmental education to young people on both sides of the border, the project aims to invest both in the future peace of the island and the future sustainability of the planet.

Ireland has been identified as one of the Top 5 countries by The Guardian to survive global societal collapse. All-island Schools 4 Climate Action is making environmental education accessible and freely available to all students, parents, teachers and citizens, to promote awareness, understanding, and encourage behavioural change by communicating small, practical actions that can be implemented immediately.

All-island Schools 4 Climate Action is the voice of the young generation advocating behavioural action and accelerating change: now. Climate change does not wait, and this initiative is about more than just an ambition - it is all about accelerating action as quickly as possible. Education, knowledge and responsibility are our personal starting points and - with cross-border collaboration - school students are building an All-island approach around saving their common future.

The pandemic has taught us the important lesson that vaccination education is critical for those who need to be convinced so that they can actively participate in a successful national vaccination roll-out programme to keep us all safe.

We need to do the same with climate change education. Our schools are not only going to raise awareness, through education, they are going to collaborate with each other to take actionable steps, through collaboration and increasing future resilience to keep us all safe.

Co-operation Ireland is an all-island peace-building organisation that is working towards building a shared and cohesive society by addressing legacy issues of the conflict and facilitating contact and collaboration between people from different backgrounds.

EcoEd4All, established in 2018 is a voluntary group of subject matter experts focused on developing free environmental education course material for Transition Year students. EcoEd4All’s pilot programme has been rolled out in several schools in Galway and several schools around the Republic of Ireland.
