Your goal as a makeup artist is not only to provide great makeup for your clients, but also to encourage them to take care of their skin, so that it is as beautiful and radiant as possible. It's always better to create your work of art on the best canvas possible! In this topic we examine ways you can encourage your clients to take better care of their skin. There are a number of factors that can adversely affect the skin. The skin can become drier as a result of the natural aging process. However, there are ways that we can minimise this progression and help keep the skin healthier, fresher and smoother. Keeping your face clean is important. This will make sure your pores don’t get clogged with dirt and grime. If you keep your skin blemish free, this will make your skin look more radiant. Exfoliate. Get rid of the dead skin cells, so that new ones come to the surface. This will leave your skin looking more fresh and radiant. When you exfoliate, dead skins cells are washed away, the pores are opened up and flushed clean and as the pores tighten back up, the result is smoother skin . The new skin cells have not been damaged by the wind and the sun. They will rise to the top and you will end up with more radiant looking skin. When your skin is dry, it gets damaged and can crack. If you keep your skin moisturized, this will help it remain pliable and better looking. It will be harder for your skin to wrinkle, because it won’t be dehydrated and will be able to function properly. Drink lots of water. When you are dehydrated, your skin becomes loose, saggy, flaky and dull looking. If you stay hydrated, your skin will show this. It will look more radiant and beautiful. Antioxidants are essential for the body as a whole. In addition, they can really reduce the signs of aging. They decrease inflammation, which is one of the leading causes of wrinkle formation. There are lots of foods that contain antioxidants including pomegranates, blueberries, acai berries, goji berries, spinach, raspberries, purple grapes, organic tea, dark chocolate, nuts and seeds. Include these in your diet and your body and skin will reap the benefits. Limit your exposure to the sun and tanning beds. Most people like the look of tanned skin. However, these results only temporarily give you radiant looking skin. To keep radiant skin for the long term, always apply skin protection with UVA, UVB and at least SPF 15 protection. You can apply it to your face every morning, along with a moisturizer. This will help to keep that young, radiant looking skin for a longer time. Apply sun block to the parts of your body that are exposed to the sun, all year round if necessary. Remove your makeup every night. Don't sleep with your makeup on. It will clog your pores and this can cause blemishes and other skin imperfections. Don’t use harsh chemicals on your skin. If you are not getting a chemical peel, you should not use any harsh chemicals on your skin. That being said, if you follow the skin advice tips in this topic, there is probably no need for you to have a chemical peel in the first place. Eat a balanced diet. People who eat a balanced diet have better skin, because their body is getting all the nutrients it needs. For example, a diet rich in vitamin C, not only helps the immune system, but it also results in less wrinkles. Skin that has been treated with vitamin C in the long term, will produce more collagen. Consequently it will be softer, more hydrated and more elastic. And this is what you need for healthier, better-looking skin. Relieve stress. Try to reduce your stress levels by, for example, taking walks, listening to soothing music, giving yourself more time and getting enough sleep. When you are less stressed, your mind and body functions better, leading to better overall health. Better overall health results in healthier skin.
