Although I feel as a teacher we should not label children, it is good in the eyes of the school. It does help with extra adults and funding at times which will improve the children's experience when learning.

Many people have been expressing shock about the fact that autism was not listed, I believe that autism was not listed because of the sheer number of students that have other disabilities. As of 2007 11% of children in the U.S. alone have been diagnosed with A.D.H.D. Along with behavioral or learning disorders and physical disabilities the number of people afflicted with autism is far less.

different children have different traits and might experience different challenges so I personally believe that labelling the child is not right.

It's very clear that individuals defers, so also challenges of life, likewise students, have different academic disabilities yet teachers ought to learn to put up with such person.Because it's his/her sole responsibility to educate the child personally, regardless of his (her) weakness ;therefore it's not right to label her publicly since no is perfect. My suggestion is that the teacher should device a means which he/ she will to assist the fellow to improve in future, though the parents of such person should be ware of their child's inability learn fast enough.

So, learning disabilites need to be reviewed and not defined as a static, non changing condition. If an IEP plan is to reach its full potential then it is necessary to see the individuals abilities and disabilities rather then group them and generalize. Learning disabilities are essentially ambiguous and vary.

So would a method of dealing with a student that has a SEN around literacy and reading be, to introduce texts in subjects that they excel in? i.e if they excel in sports then books that are centered around that particular sport?

Would it not be in all students interest for special educational issues and needs to be adapted into learning about differences in the national curriculum? Would this not be a way to tackle stigmas?

Categories of learning disabilities do serve a purpose in that it helps parents and teachers have a framework and language to refer to. It also helps when educators are organizing support services. Although this might have a impact of a students self esteem, I think that the way to avoid this is for their to be a general acknowledgement that learning difficulties are experienced by many people.
