Physical Education - Intrinsic/extrinsic influences on fitness attitudes:
peers and school
Peers and School
* Peer groups become the major influence, especially in our teenage
years. They can be positive or negative depending on the group you mix
with. The social aspect is often high. Social and academic pressures may
often limit participation in physical activity, as both are time consuming.
* School is obviously the most influential when PE is compulsory. Just
take a note of the drop off in physical activity in your school in Years 11
and 12, if PE is not compulsory.
* PE gives students access, knowledge and skills development in a whole
range of sports. This allows people to make choices later on in life if
they have skills and knowledge in a range of sports.
