Light and matter: electric fields and the electron
An important aspect of light is its interaction with matter in the
photoelectric effect. The photoelectric effect is the last property of
light that we will consider that affects our decision about whether the
wave model or the particle model is the better explanation of light.
In order to be able to analyse experiments involving the photoelectric
effect it is necessary to consider the motion of charged particles in an
electric field.  Therefore we must first investigate the nature of an
important particle - the electron.
