The duration of a collision

An important idea is that of having a fixed change in momentum, [1] such
as in a car crash. The longer the change in momentum takes, the smaller the
force has to be.

This can be clearly seen from the equation:

This relationship can be used to explain the purpose of crumple zones and
air bags in cars.
